I've always loved this song but never knew what the hell it was about. After finally reading the lyrics I still have no idea. Not sure anyone would know except David Bowie and perhaps not even him. Who knows. Just a bunch of gibberish that only he would know about. David Bowie is a weirdo. He makes awesome music and has a great voice but the songs I've heard that he has written never mean much to me. Now let the world crucify me for blasphemy.
This song is part of a theme album about a fictional rock star who was a transvestite (possibly among other things). He was also charismatic and got bigger than his britches and, being consumed by fame, alienating the people around him, particularly his band. Much of the language is slang... not jibberish like the word 'naz' essentially means 'the shit'.
An obvious observation is that ziggy is modeled after bowie himself.
Does anyone else think Bowie looks like Scott in that video?
