American Girl by Tom Petty

Well, she was an American girl
Raised on promises
She couldn't help thinkin'
That there was a little more to life somewhere else
After all it was a great big world
With lots of places to run to
And if she had to die tryin'
She had one little promise she was gonna keep

O yeah, all right
Take it easy, baby
Make it last all night
She was an American girl

Well it was kind of cold that night,
She stood alone on her balcony
Yeah, she could hear the cars roll by,
Out on 441 like waves crashin' on the beach
And for one desperate moment
There he crept back in her memory
God it's so painful when something that's so close
Is still so far out of reach

O yeah, all right
Take it easy, baby
Make it last all night
She was an American girl

OH MY MY, OH HELL YES... WE WILL MISS YOU BROTHER

Tom Petty was simple and awesome. The perfect American icon. His music was the backdrop of many moments. There is a great documentary I saw recently that told he story about how he wrote free fallin. Sad he is dead. Or dying. Or whatever. Waz will not admit he is dead. And Waz scares me so I won’t disagree with him.

Tom Petty was definitely a legend in the world of music

So many great songs in a fantastic career

And he was such a down to earth, cool guy

I saw him at Red Rocks and he played for 3 hours

And every song he played was a blast from the past

I remember he always had a new video on MTV

And then he played Lucky on King of the Hill

The man could do it all

He will be missed

Bloom County had a cartoon come out after his passing and it was perfect

Yes he was from the era where a rock star was a rock star and when you saw them in concert they played three full sets at the least. Now you are lucky if you get two hours of music. REM played for three hours at the arena that was replaced by the VERY lame Pepsi Center. You cant hear shit in there. Even before I lost my hearing.

Petty was the sound track to many moments in my life from grade school through high school. You got lucky babe is one of my most favorite music videos. All of the stars from my youth are dropping like flies.
