Just a steel town girl on a Saturday night
Lookin' for the fight of her life
In the real time world no one sees her at all
They all say she's crazy
Locking rhythms to the beat of her heart
Changing movement into light
She has danced into the danger zone
When the dancer becomes the dance
It can cut you like a knife
If the gift becomes the fire
On a wire between will and what will be
She's a maniac, maniac on the floor
And she's dancing like she's never danced before
She's a maniac, maniac on the floor
And she's dancing like she's never danced before
On the ice-blue line of insanity
Is a place most never see
It's a hard-won place of mystery
Touch it, but can't hold it
You work all your life for that moment in time
It could come or pass you by
It's a push-shove world, but there's always a chance
If the hunger stays the night
There's a cold kinetic heat
Struggling, stretching for the beat
Never stopping with her hair against the wind
She's a maniac, maniac, at your door
And she's dancing like she's never danced before
She's a maniac, maniac, at your door
And she's dancing like she's never danced before
It can cut you like a knife
If the gift becomes the fire
On a wire between will and what will be
She's a maniac, maniac, at your door (at your door)
And she's dancing like she's never danced before
She's a maniac, maniac, at your door
And she's dancing like she's never danced before
Maniac, maniac, at your door
And she's dancing like she's never danced before
Lookin' for the fight of her life

(WHISPERED) I THINK THAT GIRL IS CRAZY....

Man. I love this song. This movie is so damn rad. The dude in it is lame though. Why would she fall in love with such a dweeb? I love how she is this bad ass construction worker who is secretly an amazing dancer. I also love the line “cut you like a knife”. I want to remake this movie and cast Waz as the lead girl.
I vaguely remember this movie
The video, however, has been ingrained in my brain since 83'
It was always on
Jennifer Beals was dancing in your living room just about every hour
And damnit this song's a catchy one
I remember them referencing this song in "Tommy Boy" - it was a funny moment
Willie does his own one-man band version of this song in the Sherry Bobbins episode of The Simpsons
He even does the water splash in the face, at the end of the song - brilliant!
Waz will make an outstanding second coming of Jennifer Beals
It is indeed an iconic movie and song. The latest Dead Pool had a poster of Deadpool doing the famous chair splash scene only instead of water raining down it was shell casing. Funny that. I would pay good money to see Waz in that role. I always thought it would have been rad to have a batman movie with Chris Farley as Batman. Totally done straight except well a morbidly obese batman.
