I think hearing Frankie Vallie sing beauty school dropout inspired him to burn down the house. I personally always found that song to be the most boring song on the album. I always skipped it. I didn’t like it but it didn’t ever cause enough rage to destroy a house. Also I like the acrid smoke reference. People don’t always realize that when a house burns it can smell bad. Sad for Tony.
I remember the song title from the Simpsons
It's when Troy McClure is in a telethon and says you might remember him from past telethons as
~ 'Out With Gout 88' and 'Let's Save Tony Orlando's House'
But the lyrics take a different turn
They're basically a continuation of sorts to Frankie Valli's song 'Dawn, Go Away'
Where he told her, "Go away, I'm no good for you" in the song
So Dawn did indeed go away and apparently ended up in Tony Orlando's arms
We fast forward many years later where Orlando is wowing the crowd at some concert
And a revenge fueled Frankie Valli torches Tony's mansion in his vow to reclaim Dawn
Because Yo La Tango felt this story needed the conclusion it always wanted
And yes, I imagine a burning mansion would not smell good at all
As far as the song goes - I'd have to say the music was much happier than the lyrics
It's a good one though and shines a light on the dangers of smoke inhalation
So, you know, it's a 'Win-Win'
