I met my love by the gas works wall
Dreamed a dream by the old canalI kissed my girl by the factory wall
Dirty old townDirty old town
Clouds are drifting across the moonCats are prowling on their beatSpring's a girl from the streets at night
Dirty old townDirty old town
I heard a siren from the docksSaw a train set the night on fireI smelled the spring on the smoky wind
Dirty old townDirty old town
I'm gonna make me a good sharp axeShining steel tempered in the fireI'll chop you down like an old dead tree

I don't care about the charming backstory, this is clearly a murder ballad. If you look in Palford you'll find the body.
Wow. David Byrne has a song called dirty old town but this song actually sounds like it belongs in an actuall dirty old town. I want to know who that dude’s dentist is. Then I want to send him a letter telling him he failed.
