Will The Circle Be Unbroken by Mississippi John Hurt

i was standing by my window

on one cold and cloudy…
when they heard… come a’rollin
to carry my mother away

will the circle be unbroken
by and by, lord, by and…
there’s a better home awaiting
in the sky, lord, in the sky

and i told the undertaker
“undertaker please drive slow
for this lady, that you haulin’
oh, i hate to see her go”

will the circle be unbroken
by and…
there’s a better home awaiting
in the sky, lord, in the sky

i will follow, long behind her
try to stand up and be brave
but i could not hold my sorrow
when they laid her in the grave

will the circle be unbroken
by and…
there’s a better home awaiting
in the sky, lord, in the sky

SOMETHING SO PROFOUND... BEYOND THE WORDS...

I never caught the first line. This dude is singing about his mom. I guess she died and he is sad. I always thought the line was “may” the circle be unbroken. But it’s actually a question, “will” the circle be unbroken. So is he questioning his own mortality ? But in the end he said he is gonna follow her, but follower her slowly. So I guess I’m not sure what he means when he asks will the circle be unbroken. Please explain

A circle that becomes broken is no longer a circle. It becomes a C. C is fir cookie, abd that's good enough for me. So I say break that circle. Break the crap out of it. Because cookies.

Yes. Cookies should be broke and masticated.

the Circle Be Unbroken" is an anthem of hope and perseverance, a message that life -- and music -- continues in the face of adversity, and even after death
