When She Begins by Social Distortion

I was feelin' kinda beat, I decided
To hit the streets. I was lookin'
For a place for this heart of
Mine. Well I said to myself, oh
God this must be hell
I think I was slowly losin' my mind

[Chorus:]
Well round and round she goes
Where she'll stop nobody knows.
Y'know that woman put a spell
On me, but if you start me, start
Me, start me you can't stop me,
Stop me, stop me. When she begins
To rock, honey, I begin to roll.

I was hangin' by the phone, tired
Of sleepin' alone
Baby tell me where did I go wrong? When
Minutes seem like hours and
Days seem like weeks, how could
A year last so fucking long?

[Chorus:]
Well round and round she goes
Where she'll stop nobody knows.
Y'know that woman put a spell
On me, but if you start me, start
Me, start me you can't stop me,
Stop me, stop me. When she begins
To rock, honey, I begin to roll.

I was hangin' with a couple of chicks,
man I was just looking for kicks.
I was lookin' for a place for this raggedy ol' Heart of mine.
Well I said to myself, oh God this must be hell
I think I was slowly losin' my mind

[Chorus:]
Well round and round she goes
Where she'll stop nobody knows.
Y'know that woman put a spell
On me, but if you start me, start
Me, start me you can't stop me,
Stop me, stop me. When she begins
To rock, honey, I begin to roll.

SONGTIME RESURECTION

Songtime was born on January 5, 2004.  Actually it existed long before that but I didn’t keep an official record until then.  It came about as a sort of game between my friend Berv and I and provided a way for us to stay in contacted.  The idea was easy.  Several times a week, from my computer at work, I would provide the lyrics of a song over instant message.  Berv would then (theoretically) respond with two insightful comments.

At first there were many rules, but as their complexity proved baffeling to Berv, they dwindled to just one; reply to the lyrics of a song with two insightful comments.  I had my own rules too.  A song would never, EVER, be given more than once.  This meant that I had to keep track of all the songs.  In the years of  Songtime, the lyrics of over 800 songs were given.  Another of my rules was, only one song could be given on any calendar date. There could also not be a new song given until current song had been responded to.

Songtime went on for many years.  Then, for unknown reasons, Berv dragged songtime into the street and shot it in the head.  Actually it was more like he locked songtime in the closet at slowly starved it to death through neglect.  The result, though, was that songtime died.  The last official songtime lyric was given on October 8, 2012.

Berv has now talked me in to resurrecting songtime and I have agreed.  Since I now work for the federal government, and I am almost constantly out in the field, I can no longer give songtime over Instant Message.  I’ve been thinking about how it was going to be accomplished.  Berv wants me to send the songs as text messages on our cell phones.  NO WAY.  Too difficult.

Then I remembered this blog which I stopped writing years and years ago.  This morning I nuked all the old stuff, and until I think of a different use for it, it will be home for songtime.   If your name is not Berv, that’s okay.  I’d be interested in your insightful comments on the lyrics too.

So here it goes… lets see if it works.

ALRIGHT by Supergrass
We are young, we run green,
Keep our teeth, nice and clean,
See our friends, see the sights, feel alright,
We wake up, we go out, smoke a fag,
Put it out, see our friends,
See the sights, feel alright,

Are we like you?
I can't be sure,
Of the scene, as she turns,
We are strange in our worlds,

But we are young, we get by,
Can't go mad, ain't got time,
Sleep around, if we like,
But we're alright,
Got some cash, bought some wheels,
Took it out, 'cross the fields,
Lost control, hit a wall,
But we're alright,

Are we like you,
I can't be sure,
Of the scene, as she turns,
We are strange in our worlds,

But we are young, we run green,
Keep our teeth, nice and clean,
See our friends, see the sights, feel alright,

Are we like you,
I can't be sure,
Of the scene, as she turns,
We are strange in our world,

But we are young, we run green,
Keep our teeth, nice and clean,
See our friends, see the sights, feel alright.
