When the Night Was Young by Robbie Robertson

We headed straight south in a sundown light
Highway 61 through the Delta night
We shared the backroads with cardsharks and grifters
Tent show evangelists and Luke the Drifter

What is lost, what is missing
What's been gone way too long

We had dreams when the night was young
We were believers when the night was young
We could change the world, stop the war
Never seen nothing like this before
But that was back when the night was young

The sign reads God bless America guns and ammo
I'm not sure that's what He means
Sign reads repent the end is near
I'm not sure that's what we need

Get your heart beating in the right direction
That's when you make a real connection

We had dreams when the night was young
We were believers when the night was young
We could change the world, stop the war
Never seen nothing like this before
That was back when the night was young

Now Andy Warhol's in the hotel lobby
He's waiting for the late night muse
But she won't be back before morning
She's gone downtown to hear some blues
Like the sun rising out of the sea
It's how you embrace the mystery

We had dreams when the night was young
We were believers when the night was young
We could change the world, stop the war
Never seen nothing like this before
But that was back when the night was...

We had dreams when the night was young
We were believers when the night was young
We could change the world, stop the war
Never seen nothing like this before
But that was way back when the night was young

THE NIGHT IS DEFINATELY NO LONGER YOUNG AND NIETHER ARE WE

This song takes me right back to the invincible way I felt when I was in the prime of my life. Back when I had my power and I could do anything I wanted because everything was in alignment and everything was integrated. Life was perfect and full of hope.
This is also the last song that I was able to enjoy before my ability to enjoy music faded away like the setting sun.

It is sad to think that you no longer like music when you still have your hearing. As for the other stuff. I can relate somewhat. The world no longer feels full of possibility. At least not for me. I also miss the days of general well being. I still however love to see birds whirling over the road. I love the mountains. I love the joy expressed by my dog when you scratch his back. I still like to think.

Yes I LIKE these things too. But I don't LOVE them. They don't excite me. Don't inspire. It seems that somewhere along the line someone took all the color out of life and painted everything a dull shade of grey. It's still there in my life but just not as beautiful as it once was

You describe a real psychological condition called Anhedonia. It means the inability to feel pleasure. It is very common in people with long-term depression and people recovering from substance issues. It is more than a psychological condition though because it is caused by a lack of dopamine in the brain that has been depleted. It gets to be a cycle. Depression causes the brain to create less dopamine. Less dopamine causes depression.
