What Would You Say by The Dave Matthews Band

Up and down the puppies' hair
Fleas and ticks jump everywhere
'Cause of original sin
Down the hill fell Jack and Jill
And you came tumbling after
'Cause of original sin

Rip away the tears
Drink a hope to happy years
And you may find
A lifetime's passed you by

What would you say
Don't drop the big one
If you a monkey on a string
Don't cut my lifeline
If you a doggie on a chain
Don't bite the mailman
What would you say

I was there when the bear
Are his head, thought it was a candy
Everyone goes in the end
Knock knock on the door
Who's it for, there's nobody in here
Look in the mirror my friend

I don't understand at best
And cannot speak for all the rest
In the morning rise
A lifetime's passed me by

What would you say
Don't drop the big one
If you a monkey on a string
Don't cut my lifeline
If you a doggie on a chain
Don't bite the mailman
What would you say

Every dog has its day every day has its way
Of being forgotten -
Mom it's my birthday
What would you say

THIS SONG AND THIS ALBUM REMIND ME OF SANTA FE SUMMER 1995

This song is all about summer in Santa Fe. Fun times. We saw them play live that summer. I loved the show. Magical times. Too bad the music doesn't hold up. I listen to this now and feel nothing. It's pointless. Meaningless really. Sad

Yep, I remember when these guys were the hottest thing around

This album had some great songs, including this one

Proudest Monkey & Satellite were other favorites

Then their second album came out and that was good too, and this was promising

Then I remember going to the store and buying their third album the day it came out

Cause I was hanging with a beautiful red headed lass that was really into them

Took the album home and it was that day that I realized all of their music sounded the same

Couple good songs, but that's about it

Saw them in concert at Red Rocks on that tour and it rained the entire show

Sometimes a concert in the rain is special and awesome, and it's just what the show needed

That was not one of those shows

'Crash Into Me' is probably my favorite, but I enjoyed this song too

I never realized how dark the lyrics are at times

Which is funny, because this song brings back happy memories

Yes, while they were not by any means a flash in the pan, their music did become a little repetitive. Really, though, there are very few artists with any staying power who do not sound pretty much the same. The ones who last for years and years and years reinvent themselves. Like Brittney Speers, and Justin Bieber.
