I Love Trash by Oscar the Grouch

Oh, I love trash!
Anything dirty or dingy or dusty
Anything ragged or rotten or rusty
Yes, I love trash
I have here a sneaker that's tattered and worn
It's all full of holes and the laces are torn
A gift from my mother the day I was born
I love it because it's trash
Oh, I love trash!
Anything dirty or dingy or dusty
Anything ragged or rotten or rusty
Yes, I love trash
I have here some newspaper thirteen months old
I wrapped fish inside it; it's smelly and cold
But I wouldn't trade it for a big pot o' gold!
I love it because it's trash
Oh, I love trash!
Anything dirty or dingy or dusty
Anything ragged or rotten or rusty
Yes, I love trash
I've a clock that won't work
And an old telephone
A broken umbrella, a rusty trombone
And I am delighted to call them my own!
I love them because they're trash
Oh, I love trash!
Anything dirty or dingy or dusty
Anything ragged or rotten or rusty
Yes, I love, I love, I love trash!

This song was one of the very first songs I owned. Well, own isn’t quite true. It was passed down to me from someone in my family I’m sure. It was a 45 record and I used to play this song over and over. I always wondered why Oscar loved trash so much because I used to go to the city dump with my dad on the weekends and I knew how horrible trash smelled. Carrol spiny is a mystery to me. I always marveled at how one person could be simultaneously responsible for creating one of the raddest characters while also creating one of the nerdiest and lamest. I would love to see Oscar beat the shit out of Big Nerd

Yes, I would definitely say that Oscar is much more up your alley. I saw an awesome picture of Spiny performing Oscar, while wearing Big Bird's legs. There's a metaphor there. That people are complex. That they poses both the good and the bad simultaneously and that we need not label them. We can accept people for who and what they are without judgement.
