Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini by Brian Hyland

She was afraid to come out of the locker
She was as nervous as she could be
She was afraid to come out of the locker
She was afraid that somebody would see
Two, three, four, tell the people what she wore!

It was an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini
That she wore for the first time today.
An itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini
So in the locker she wanted to stay.
Two, three, four, stick around we'll tell you more!

She was afraid to come out in the open
And so a blanket around her she wore.
She was afraid to come out in the open.
And so she sat bundled up on the shore.
Two, three, four, tell the people what she wore!

It was an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini.
That she wore for the first time today.
An itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini.
So in the blanket she wanted to stay.
Two, three, four, stick around we'll tell you more!

Now she is afraid to come out of the water.
And I wonder what she's gonna do.
'Cause she's afraid to come out of the water.
And now the poor little girl's turning blue.
Two, three, four, tell the people what she wore!

It was an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini.
That she wore for the first time today.
An itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka-dot bikini.
So in the water she wanted to stay.

From the locker to the blanket,
From the blanket to the shore,
From the shore to the water
Guess there isn't any more.

YOU GO GIRL! WEAR THAT BIKINI! WEAR IT!

This song reminds me of the frog and toad story called "the swim". Toad sneaks into the lake in his bathing suit because he doesn't want anyone to see him. He swims all day and freezes his ass off waiting for everyone to leave but they all stick around to laugh at him. But I am guessing this girl looks better in her bikini than toad. But toad is much radder.

Well I can't argue with that - toad is much radder

Now I want a shirt that only says that

This song is forever intertwined with the song 'One-Eyed, One Horned Flying Purple People Eater'

They were both on a tape I listened to when I was young lad in Wyoming

And then I would hear them both on Dr Demento

I never paid attention to the lyrics, realizing now it was about a shy girl who felt her bikini was too risqué

Although, this song was an integral part in the eventual acceptance of bikini's in society

Shine on Mr Hyland, you crazy diamond

Toad is much radder. Yes. That is one of my most favorite stories of frog an toad. And it would make a very rad t-shirt. Dan... I assign you to make three t-shirts with this on it. One for you, one for me, and one for yourself.

I too remember this song well from Dr. Demento. What actually got me thinking about this song this time though was a story on NPR about the order of adjectives in English and how completely baffling it is to English learners. The example they gave was we don't "she wore a yellow, poka-dot, itsy witsy, teeny weeny, Bakini." It just ain't done.
