Roxanne by The Police

You don't have to put on the red light
Those days are over
You don't have to sell your body to the night

Roxanne
You don't have to wear that dress tonight
Walk the streets of money
You don't care if it's wrong or if it's right

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light

Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne

I loved you since I knew you
I wouldn't talk down to you
I have you to tell just how I feel
I won't share you with another boy

I know my mind is made up
So put away your make up
Told you once I won't tell you again
It's a bad way

Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light
Roxanne
You don't have to put on the red light

Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)
Roxanne (Put on the red light)

Well this song is pretty sexist. Oh look at me. I'm the hero. I can save you from your miserable life of being a hor. Tonight you only need to open your crotch for me because I'm gonna take care of you. Who knows what will happen when I tire of you and who cares because you are just a hor anyway. I would like to hear part 2 of this song. Sung from the point of view of Roxanne. It may go something like this

Hey sting
Go fuck yourself
you're nothing
without you I still have wealth

You are a shitty singer
You need pitch correct for your voice
so check out my middle finger
Believe it or not I have my own choice.
Asshole.

The police have always been a mystery to me. Why exactly were they so popular? Now I'm sure you have your panties in a bundle over this Comment. And it's true I haven't purchased their box set and listened to all their recordings. Maybe all the songs they had that weren't hits are really good and that's what people love about them. But the songs they played o. The radio were not good. I don't get it. And Sting is a wretched singer. I saw him sing once at my school and he sucked. He he has horrible pitch issues. Why he was chosen to be the singer is beyond my understanding. Or maybe he was the best they could find.

The lyrics for this song aren't groundbreaking, by any means, since he's just trying to talk his streetwalking girlfriend into a more domestic life choice. The song does have one hell of a catchy hook, and I do sing along to it when it comes on the radio. I didn't like all of their 'hits', but I do enjoy this one.

Now I love The Police, but I've never been a fan of Sting. Every note of music he recorded after the Police is total crap (except 'Russians', because that was just a catchy song with a middle finger to Russia attached) and if I have to listen to 'Fields of Gold' one more time, someone's getting shanked.
He can't act to save his life, and the fact that he has a Greatest Hits album is a travesty to music in general.

The Police were one of those bands where they were just a perfect fit. You had Andy Summers on guitar, and he came up with some great hooks and sounds that made the music flow and crash and everything in between. Then you had Stewart Copeland, who was one of the best drummers of his time, and some of the rhythms he came up with, still blow my mind today. And then you had Sting playing bass and singing a certain style that fit the band's sound. Unfortunately they broke up partly because Copeland couldn't stand Sting anymore because he was being such a douche.

P.S. the box set does have some great songs that most people have never heard, but Sting is still a douche.

Well now Dan is kicked out of Songtime too. That's sad. I should have warned him that any negative ideas about any of the songs will not be tolerated by mine fur.

But dan is right. Sting is a douche

Ok perhaps I was a little harsh calling him a douche, but one of the definitions of his name is to cause a sharp tingling or burning pain or sensation. You can't argue that there's something to that...

Mr. Tschirhart
Your comments even when negagive are intelligent and insightful. Mr. Vatattano being who he is can only make negative comments and they are almost always totally incoherent. It was no always so. Ten years ago when songtime started it was a forum for a true exchange of ideas. Now that Mr. vattano no longer has ideas there is no exchange. I'm sure Sting is a Douche. all famous people are. And he seems to think very highly of himself. I saw he and paul simon togeter. Simon is the better singer. But even simon is a douche. He and his girlfriend got arrested for having a screaming match in a fancy resturaunt. Carry on sir. carry on
