Water by Ra Ra Riot

Tired of sleeping on the sidewalk
Working at the bus stop night 'til morning
Tired and waiting for the sunlight
When it comes, it's still dark where I'm going

Don't, don't punish me for what I feel
Don't, don't punish me for what I feel

So I crawled out of the back door
Took off all these tight clothes
Jumped into the water
So I crawled out of the back door
Took off all these tight clothes
Jumped into the water
I jumped into the water
The water

Vicious demons on the TV
So I sold it on 16th St
But I still hear the drone
Now I'm 'bout to get off this night shift
Do you think I could get a lift?
I don't care where you're going

Don't, don't punish me for what I feel
Don't, don't punish me for what I feel

So I crawled out of the back door
Took off all these tight clothes
Jumped into the water
So I crawled out of the back door
Took off all these tight clothes
Jumped into the water
I jumped into the water
The water

My face was numb, my lungs were sore
But still I swam until my feet could touch the shore
Now I've been sleeping on your porch
I'm still too scared to bust the lock on your door

So I crawled out of the back door
Took off all these tight clothes
Jumped into the water
So I crawled out of the back door
Took off all these tight clothes
Jumped into the water
I jumped into the water
The water
The water

I KNOW THE IMPULSE... TO JUST GET IN THE WATER AND START SWIMING AWAY FROM SHORE... TO GET OUT OF THE CAR AND WALK INTO THE HORIZION

I discovered this song a couple months back - it's gotta few hooks that keep pulling me in

Now that I know all the lyrics, it strikes me as a song for a much needed escape

Although it mentions swimming in said water, I wonder if it's more of a cleansing/wiping the slate clean - or both

But maybe I take it that way, because I'm not crazy about being IN the water

I still think there's a shark at the bottom of the local swimming pool that's just biding its time until I jump in

Yes I think the jumping in the water is a metaphor for cleansing. I also don't like being in the water because I think pirranas are gonna eat my legs. This song sounds okay. I don't think the lyrics are saying all that much. It's like the slightly more advanced version of the fresnels song "don't wake me up". Headbands are gay and black plastic glasses on average looking white dudes is a look i am sick of. Also he gets to the water way too late in the video. And he never even goes in. So actually the water may not be a metaphor for anything. Could just be meaningless garbage.

Man it would be kind of rad if there were random sharks in swimming pools. It would make swimming an event. Nature though is powerful. People do get eaten by sharks. They go to the beach with family and then CHOMP that's all folks. People get eaten by lots of things. When I was in LA there was a mountain lion in Angeles national forest that ate like three people before they put a stop to it. He jumped on one lady who was just riding her bike. Then there's the dude and his girlfriend that got eaten by bears. They fancied themselves naturalists and we're friends with the bears then CHOMP game over.
