My Life by Billy Joel

Got a call from an old friend
We used to be real close
Said he couldn't go on the American way
Closed the shop, sold the house
Bought a ticket to the West Coast
Now he gives them a stand-up routine in L.A.

I don't need you to worry for me cause I'm alright
I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home
I don't care what you say anymore, this is my life
Go ahead with your own life and leave me alone

I never said you had to offer me a second chance
I never said I was a victim of circumstance
I still belong, don't get me wrong
And you can speak your mind
But not on my time

They will tell you you can't sleep alone
In a strange place
Then they'll tell you you can't sleep
With somebody else
Ah, but sooner or later you sleep
In your own space
Either way it's okay
You wake up with yourself

I don't need you to worry for me cause I'm alright
I don't want you to tell me it's time to come home
I don't care what you say anymore, this is my life
Go ahead with your own life and leave me alone

I never said you had to offer me a second chance
I never said I was a victim of circumstance
I still belong, don't get me wrong
And you can speak your mind
But not on my time
I don't care what you say anymore, this is my life
Go ahead with your own life and leave me alone

NOW THIS IS THE KIND OF BREAK-UP SONG I LIKE. NOT BOO - HOO FOR ME IM SO SAD LOOK AT HOW SAD I AM, BUT HEY I'VE MOVED ON TIME FOR YOU TO MOVE ON TOO. I'VE ALSO OFTEN WONDERED HOW PETER SKLAR FEELS ABOUT TOM HANKS.

Peter skalare must hate him. He was a better actor and hanks is the one who got all famous. And he never even threw his old buddy a bone. Lame. At least I remember like skalaree better. Man I loved that show as a kid. Wonder if it holds up. I doubt it. Nothing ever does. This song is angry. Angry song.

Many of the dudes I work with say they only feel mad, sad, glad. This was especially true of the us I met in the county lock up. I realized last night that berv is one of these dudes. Mad,sad, glad. He thinks this song is angry. Now anger may be at the edges, in the past, but not now. It's a song of liberation and realizing whatever happened with that other person it's over and they no longer have control. Now of course all those dudes I met have the same nuances of emotion everyone does. They just don't have the emotional vocabulary to express. Get a dictionary bro. If I remember correctly Peter sklar became one of the top talent agents in hollywood.

Let's not forget Peter's stint on Newhart

But yeah, Hanks did a wee bit better in the long run

I read that Bosom Buddies became real popular in syndication and they wanted to bring the show back

But Hanks movie career was taking off, so it was a no go

Now I was already a Billy Joel fan when this song was used as the theme song

And I knew it wasn't actually Billy singing

The funny thing is - I never thought of this song as a break up song

It struck me more as a song about moving on, but from nothing too specific

Great song - Great show from my childhood - Great googly-moogly
