Die Young by Sylvan Esso

I had it all planned that way before you met me
Was gonna leave early and so swiftly
Maybe in a fire or crash off a ravine
People would weep, "How tragic, so early"

I was gonna die young
Now I gotta wait for you, hun
Now I gotta wait for you, hun
Now I gotta wait for you, hun

I was a firecracker, baby, with something to prove
Now I gotta contend with the living blues
I could've missed it, and never knew
Chain reaction but you're holding the fuse

I was gonna die young
Now I gotta wait for you, hun
Now I gotta wait for you, hun (honey)
Now I gotta wait for you, hun

Oh, I don't mind
I got the fire
Electric life
So high, so wild
It's not like I chose
Not like I tried
But now I gotta wait around
And watch you burn so bright
I was gonna die

I had it all planned that way before you met me
I had a plan, you ruined it completely
I had it all planned that way before you met me
I had a plan, you ruined it completely

I was gonna die young
(I had it all planned that way before you met me)
Now I gotta wait for you, hun
(I had a plan, you ruined it completely)
Now I gotta wait for you, hun (honey)
(I had it all planned that way before you met me)
Now I gotta wait for you, hun
(I had a plan, you ruined it completely)

I was gonna die young (yeah, yeah, yeah)
Now I gotta wait for you, hun (I was gonna, I was gonna)
Now I gotta wait for you, hun (oh, oh)
Now I gotta wait for you, hun (oh yeah, yeah, yeah)

I had it all planned that way before you met me
I had a plan, you ruined it completely
I had it all planned that way before you met me
I had a plan, you ruined it completely

OKAY... NOT SURE WHAT THAT'S ALL ABOUT BUT MORE POWER TO EM

Well Neil Young said it best. "It's better to burn out then to fade away". I'm glad that this person found a reason to live. Although I'm not sure that staying alive just to be with another person is a healthy way to live it is at least something. He important thing is this - now that you have a new reason to stay alive you can stop recording songs. Now we can all breathe a sigh of relief

I think of Def Leppard's song 'Rock of Ages', because that's the first time I heard -

'It's better to burn out then fade away'

It's not surprising that Neil sang this gem in 1979

Also not surprising that Def Leppard borrowed/pilfered it only a few years later

Yes, it's good this person found a reason to live

A lot of times, this goes the other way - where someone loses the will to live after losing someone else's love

So this is somewhat of a refreshing spin on an old standard

Well he don't sound to happy about having a reason to live.
