I'm Still Standing by Elton John

You could never know what it's like
Your blood like winter freezes just like ice
And there's a cold lonely light that shines from you
You'll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use

And did you think this fool could never win
Well, look at me, I'm a-coming back again
I got a taste of love in a simple way
And if you need to know while I'm still standing you just fade away

Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
And I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah

Once I never could hope to win
You're starting down the road leaving me again
The threats you made were meant to cut me down
And if our love was just a circus you'd be a clown by now

You know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah

Don't you know that I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
And I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind

I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah

I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah

I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm still standing. Yeah, yeah, yeah

I don’t get the line “feeling like a little kid”. He has finally got the strength and maturity to break away and find how to live with joy without the need of this other person. That don’t sound like a little kid to me. That sounds like a man. But it must have meant something to Bernie taupin. And yes. To your point chris, there is also a strange element in this song. If you truly are over this person and moving on, why write such an emotional song that re affirms over and over the fact that you are okay. Clearly you really ain’t.

I think the 'feeling like a little kid' maybe in reference to that part of his life that was unbroken

Before he knew the pain of heartache and the life of a spurned lover

Perhaps he sings this song as an almost daily mantra to help him perservere

Getting over some of those lovers can really bring you down, as we all know

Maybe this is just his way to climb up from the depths

Telling himself that he's an even better person for making it through

Now as far as the video goes

It has nothing to do with the song

It's like the song and the video were both sailing the same seas

~ but they just passed each other in the night

Yes I think you are right. I think this is more of a self pep talk than addressed to the person who did him wrong. And yes the part about the kid is more about a feeling of well being when the world is bright and untarnished. As for the video, I don't even know if they were in the same ocean. I think they just thought 'you know Elton is gay. Lets make this the most gay video there ever was.' And I don't mean gay in the derogatory manner Berv uses the word.
