We Don't Need Another Hero by Tina Turner
Out of the ruins
Can't make the same mistake this time
We are the children
The last generation (the last generation, generation)
We are the ones they left behind
Living under the fear, 'til nothing else remains
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond Thunderdome
There's gotta be something better out there
Ooh, love and compassion
Their day is coming (coming)
All else are castles built in the air
Living under the fear, 'til nothing else remains
We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond Thunderdome
We leave only a mark
Will our story shine like a light or end in the dark?
Give it all or nothing
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond Thunderdome
We don't need another hero (we don't need another hero)
We don't need to know the way home, ooh
All we want is life beyond Thunderdome

My Moon My Man by Feist
My moon, my man, so changeable, and
My care, my coat, leaves on a high note
There's nowhere to go, but on
Not where it should be, the song's out of key again
My moon's white face
What day and what phase?
It's the calendar page again
Shed some light
Shed some light on me, please
Shed some light
Shed some light on me, please
It's the dirtiest clean, I know
My care, my coat leaves on a high note
There's nowhere to go, there's nowhere to go
Shed some light
Shed some light on me, please
Shed some light
Shed some light on me, please
My moon, my moon, my man
My moon, my moon, my man
My moon, my moon, my man

White Privilege by Macklemore
Now nod your head and wake up
I see so many people lost who really try to pretend
But am I just another white boy who has caught on to the trend?
When I take a step to the mic is hip-hop closer to the end?
'Cause when I go to shows the majority have white skin
They marketed the windmill, the air flair and head spin
And white rappers' albums really get the most spins
The face of hip-hop has changed a lot since Eminem
And if he's taking away black artists' profits, I look just like him
Claimed a culture that wasn't mine, the way of the American
Hip-hop is gentrified, and where will all the people live?
It's like the Central District, Beacon Hill to the South End
Being pushed farther away because of what white people did, now
Where's my place in a music that's been taken by my race
Culturally appropriated by the white face?
And we don't wanna admit that this is existing
So scared to acknowledge the benefits of our white privilege
'Cause it's human nature to wanna be part of something different
Especially when your ancestors are European Christians
And most whites don't wanna acknowledge this is occurring
'Cause we got the best deal, the music without the burden
Of being black in a system that really wants you to rock
'Cause all you need is a program and you can go and make hip-hop
And we hate the mainstream 'cause we're the ones that took it
Now we listen to Aesop Rock and wear T-shirts that say "Brooklyn"
But it's not about black and white, right?
I mean good music is good music regardless of what you look like
But when you don't give them props isn't that selfish?
That's like saying rock was actually started by Elvis
So where does this leave me?
I feel like I pay dues, but I'll always be a white MC
I give everything I have when I write a rhyme
But that doesn't change the fact that this culture's not mine
But I'm gonna be me, so please be who you are
This is something that's effortless and shouldn't be hard
I said I'm gonna be me, so please be who you are
But we still owe 'em 40 acres now we've stolen their 16 bars
Hip-hop started off on a block that I've never been to
To counteract a struggle that I've never even been through
If I think I understand just because I flow too
That means I'm not keeping it true, nope
Hip-hop started off on a block that I've never been to
To counteract a struggle that I've never even been through
If I think I understand just because I flow too
That means I'm not keeping it true, I'm not keeping it true
Now I don't rap about guns, so they label me conscious
But I don't rap about guns 'cause I wasn't forced into the projects
See I was put in the position where I could choose my options
Blessed with the privilege that my parents could send me to college
Now who's going to shows? The kids on the block starving?
Or the white people with dough that can relate to my content?
Marketed the music, now adapted to the lifestyle
What happened to jazz and rock-and-roll is happening right now
Where's my place in the music that's been taken by the media
With white corporations controlling what they're feedin' ya?
I brought up Aesop Rock, but I'm not even dissing, dude
We love hip-hop, and what do you think Caucasians are listening to?
And I speak freely when I write this
If a black MC examined race, there goes half their fan base, white kids
And this is so true
And we didn't even have to fight the system, we just went and picked up the microphone too
And we got good at it so we should be rappin'
But only supporting them is like burning Jimi and buying Clapton
Now Clapton's incredible, but no Jimi, no foundation
So here comes history and the cultural appropriation
White kids with do-rags trying to practice their accents
From the suburbs to the upper-class, mastering a language
But hip-hop is not just memorizing words
It's rooted in authenticity, something you literally can't learn
But I'm gonna be me, so please be who you are
This is something that's effortless and shouldn't be hard
I said I'm gonna be me, so please be who you are
But as I'm blessed with the privilege, they're still left with the scars
Hip-hop started off on a block that I've never been to
To counteract a struggle that I've never even been through
If I think I understand just because I flow, too?
That means I'm not keeping it true, nope
Hip-hop started off on a block that I've never been to
To counteract a struggle that I've never even been through
If I think I understand just because I flow, too?
That means I'm not keeping it true, I'm not keeping it true

Fidelity by Regina Spektor
Shake it up
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost
In the sounds
All of these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in my mind
All of this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my ha-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-aart
And it breaks my ha-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-aart
Suppose we never fell in love
Suppose I never ever let you
Kiss me so sweet
And so sah-ah-ah-ah-oft
Suppose we never, ever called
Suppose I kept on singin' love songs
Just to break
My own fall
Just to break my fa-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-aall
Just to break my fa-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-aall
Just to break my fa-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-aall
Break my fall
Break my fall
That of course
It's gonna get be'er
Gonna get be'er
Be'er, be'er, be'er, be'er
Better, better, better, ohhh...
Always one foot on the ground
And by protecting my heart truly
I got lost
In the sounds
All of these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in my mind
All of this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
All of these voices
I hear in my mind
All of these words
I hear in my mind
All of this music
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
It breaks my ha-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-aart
And it breaks my ha, ah, ah, ah, art
And it breaks my ha-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-aart
And it breaks my heart
Breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart
And it breaks my heart

On My Own by Patti LaBelle and Michel McDonald
Hmm... hmm... hmm... ha
Said our love would always be true
Something in my heart always knew I'd be lying here beside you...
On my own...
On my own...
On my own...
So many promises never to be spoken
Now we're up to talking divorce and we weren't even married...
On my own... once again... now...
One more time... by... myself
No one said it was easy
No-no-no ooh no
But it once was so easy
I wonder why
Ooh...
Why did it end this way?
(On my own...)
So many times know I could talk to
Losing you it cut like a knife
You walked out and there went my life
I don't want to live without you...
On my own...
This wasn't how it was supposed to end
I wish that we could do it all again
On my own...
I never dreamed I'd would spend one night alone
Oh... oh... oh... oh...
On... my own...
I've got to find where I belong again
(On my own...)
I've got to learn to be strong again
(On my own...)
I never dreamed I'd spend one night alone
(By myself)
By myself by myself
I... woo...
I've got to find out what was mine again
(On my own...)
My heart is saying that it's time again
(On my own...)
And I... have faith that I will shine...
By myself... again
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh
I... (on my own...) have faith... (on my own...) in me...
(By myself)
By myself by myself

Australia by The Shins
Time to put the ear-covers on
La-la-la-la
La-la-la-la
La-la-la-la
Born to gaze into night skies
All you want's one more Saturday
Well, look here until then
They're gonna buy your life's time
So keep your wick in the air, and your feet in the fetters 'til the day
We are caught up by ourselves
And your shape on the dance floor
Will have me thinking such filth and gouge my eyes
Faced with the dodo's conundrum
I felt like I could just fly
But nothing happened every time I tried
Woo, ooh
Selfless fool who hoped he'd save us all
Never dreamt of such sterile hands
You keep 'em folded in your lap
And raise them up to beg for scraps
You know he's holding you down with the tips of his fingers, just the same
But just a minute too late
Or changed by a potion
And find a handsome young mate for you to love
You know you'd trade your life for any ordinary Joe
Well, do it now or grow old
Your nightmares only need a year or two to unfold
You haven't laughed since January
You try and make like this so much fun
But we know it to be quite contrary
La-la-la-la-la-la-la
Faced with the androids conundrum
I felt like I should just cry
But nothing happens every time I take one on the chin
You're Himmler in your coat, you don't know how long I have been
Watching the lantern dim
Starved of oxygen
So give me your hand, and let's jump out the window
(La-la-la-la)
La-la-la-la-la
(La-la-la-la)
La-la-la-la-la
(La-la-la-la)
La-la-la-la-la

Stand by Your Man by Tammy Wynette
Sometimes it's hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
You'll have bad times, and he'll have good times
Doin' things that you don't understandBut if you love him, you'll forgive him
Even though he's hard to understand
And if you love him, oh be proud of him
'Cause after all he's just a man.
Stand by your man, give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely.
Stand by your man, and show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can.
Stand by your man.
Stand by your man, and show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can.
Stand by your man.

Long Time Gone by Crosby Stills & Nash
It's been a long time comin'
And it appears to be a long
Appears to be a long
Appears to be a long
Time, yes, a long, long, long, long time
Before the dawn
Hear, you must hear what the people say
You know there's something that's going on around here
It surely, surely, surely won't stand the light of day, no
And it appears to be a long (Yes, it does)
Appears to be a long (Mmm)
Appears to be a long
Time, such a long, long time
Before the dawn
You got to speak your mind if you dare
But don't, no don't, no, try to get yourself elected
If you do, you had better cut your hair, mmm
And it appears to be a long (Yes, it does)
Appears to be a long (Mmmhmm)
Appears to be a long
Time, such a long, long, long, long time
Before the dawn, yeah
It's goin' to be a long time gone
But you know
The darkest hour
Is always, always just before the dawn
Appears to be a long
Appears to be a long time, such a long, long, long, long time
Before the dawn

I Ain't Superstitious by Jeff Beck
I ain't superstitious
I ain't superstitious
But a black cat crossed my trail
Bad luck ain't got me so far
And I won't let it stop me now
All over my neighborhood and that ain't all
Dogs begin to bark
All over my neighborhood (mm, mm)
This is a mean old world to live in
And I can't face it all by myself
All over my neighborhood
The dogs begin to bark
All over my neighborhood
And it ain't too good I know that
But a black cat crossed my trail
I said so many times before
I ain't superstitious
A black cat crossed my trail
Bad luck ain't got me so far
And you know I ain't gonna let it stop me now

January On Lake Street by Atmosphere
The doors open
You lookin' at me sideways
You tryna predict what I might say
But my mind ain't here now, I'm thinking 'bout the highway
Gone with the gust
Sing songs for the bombs that fall in the dusk
We all want a little too much
Tryna clutch anything close enough to touch
And if I had the means
I would never be the mascot of y'll team
Y'll judging trials
I'm shoveling miles
Wanna go home and try to grow a couple of smiles
So I shift to the capital N
It happened before and it'll happen again
Roll backwards into the street
Now talk amongst yourselves but try to keep it on beat
I got at least ten minutes to live
You not a thief just simulative
There's no need to be a difficult finish
You can see you ain't the only one considering getting it in
Claim that you ain't afraid to die
Then why are you afraid to fly?
You better face the heights
Get your bravery stripes or get your name denied
Cause you was waiting for a safer ride
God bless I set up the bricks
Step through the mess didn't wreck the kicks
Dreamt that I lept off the edge of the ciff
Came back said the bodies up in heaven were thick
Changing lanes and re-arranging life
I ain't tryna chase a trail of tail-lights
Manage pain to get the placement right
Stand up straight when you say goodnight
I deal the truth y'll pick and choose
This ain't a game for you to win or lose
But I, never been in your shoes
But I, never make supper with suckers
It ain't nothing if it ain't about hunger
You think you cuttin' the lumber
And I would love to be a fly on the cupboard
Whenever that bubble ruptures
And even when we save the day
We never do it believing that we don't make mistakes
You don't need to recognize my face
I'm trying to fly through time and space
Too late to erase me
With the windows down, January on Lake Street
Poppa got a brand new can of paint
Put your hands in the air like you work at the bank

The People In Your Neighborhood by Bob McGrath
Oh, who are the people in your neighborhood?
In your neighborhood?
Say, who are the people in your neighborhood?
The people that you meet each day
[Bob: Oh, I love Christmas. But you could be the postman.]
[Anything Muppet #1: A postman, hmmmm ...]
Oh, the postman always brings the mail
Through rain or snow or sleet or hail
I'll work and work the whole day through
To get your letters safe to you
'Cause a postman is a person in your neighborhood
In your neighborhood
He's in your neighborhood
A postman is a person in your neighborhood
A person that you meet each day
Oh, a fireman is brave it's said
His engine is a shiny red
If there's a fire anywhere about
Well, I'll be sure to put it out
'Cause a fireman is a person in your neighborhood
In your neighborhood
He's in your neighborhood
And a postman is a person in your neighborhood
Well, they're the people that you meet
When you're walking down the street
They're the people that you meet each day
Your bread and rolls and pies and cakes
If you want something sweet to eat, go see
The baker in the bakery
To teach important things to you
He'll teach you things you won't forget
Like numbers and the alphabet
You sit in it, he cuts your hair
He'll snip and clip and never rest
Until your haircut looks its best
To take you where you want to go
When you get in and pay your fare
She will drive you anywhere
The top ones and the ones beneath
So if you have an aching tooth
He'll fix it quick, and that's the truth
If by chance you're feeling sick
She works and works the whole day long
To help you feel well and strong
Like bread and eggs, cheese and meat
No matter what you're looking for
You'll find it at the grocery store
To take care of the shoes you wear
With his hammer, nails, and glue
He'll fix your shoes as good as new
How to clean and press your clothes
He'll take a jacket, suit, or vest
And clean it so you'll look your best
He'll always take your trash away
He drives the biggest truck you've seen
To keep the city streets all clean

Christmas Time Is Here by Vince Guaraldi
Christmas time is here
